Week 8 Blog - Peer Review Feedback

What feedback have you received and what have you done as a result? Why?

My partner reviewed my course and she was able to point out a couple of things that didn’t make sense and that needed to be removed from my course content.  She also suggested I use a different picture for my course image, one of a half-marathon starting/finishing line.  Although I did consider her suggestion, I decided to keep the current image with the simple 13.1 for a couple of reasons.  One, anyone wanting to run a half-marathon will recognize the 13.1 as the half-marathon distance and two because my course would not be attached to a specific half-marathon.

My partner also gave me some positive feedback.  She mentioned she liked that I included the Using Canvas page for students who would be new to this environment.  She also likes that I included the Etiquette page.  She didn’t suggest any changes to my module structure and that makes me happy as I spent a long time deciding on this particular module structure.  For my review of her courses, I sent her some recommendations.  I suggested she include a photo of herself in the About Me page and also suggested she changed the logo a one that matches the color of the business aesthetic.  I also suggested she add an accessibility statement and an online etiquette section.  These are two items you see in just about every online course.

Given that many standard corporate ID projects last about 3 weeks and this is week 8 of the session, how do you feel about working on a professional timeline?

I have never worked in the corporate setting where timelines are strict.  All of my instructional design (ID) experience has been in the higher education field.  I have never worked with a group or another instructional designer face-to-face where timeline was discussed or an issue.  For all the ID work that I have done in the past, it has been just me.  Because of this, there is not a set timeline but rather just due dates for the final product.  I like to work on the projects until I am done or if I’m only given a few days to get something completed, I will make the project a priority.

I am taking another graduate course in which I was paired with three other students and we has a real client.  Although we do have a timeline, it has been very easy getting our items completed on time since there are four of us.  But still, three weeks for a professional timeline seems aggressive but I suppose that if you are working with a group,  it would be easier to meet the due dates.

Week 13 - Activity 5

What is left to do? Since I wrote my last blog I have made some small changes to my course.  I have made some small revisions to the modules to clean up the content a bit more.  I also finalized a couple of handouts that I had left incomplete.  I also changed my landing page and if time permits, I might change it again.  I need to go back and review all my course links and make sure they are all still active and opening the right pages.  Once I get these done, I will try downloading my course and see how that process goes as I don’t want to wait until the final week to do this, in case I run into issues. What challenges have you faced?  Will you be able to meet your timeline for completion?  Why or why not? Will you be able to implement? Evaluate? I haven’t faced too many challenges other than trying to complete all the work before the end of the semester.  I have reached the point in my project where I need to be able to see any mistak...

Activity 3: Blog Reflection for Week 6

Reflect on the following items: You have begun putting together your full course. What has gone well? What has challenged you? What feedback have you received? What feedback have you given? What have you learned from the process of developing instruction in an LMS? I started putting my course together in week 5 as I am trying not to procrastinate in this class because from week 7 on, I will need to rely on my time management skills.   I am so used to the Blackboard environment so there has been a learning curve as far understanding the structure of Canvas.   I am still not sure how some things work in Canvas but I think I am learning a lot through the development of my course.   For me, there is nothing better than hands-on learning.   The one area I’ve had difficulty with is placing links.   Canvas doesn’t allow for the use of some links and I find that a bit annoying.   The workaround has been for me to create a content page and the...

Week 3 - Blog Reflection 2

For week 3, we were asked to reflect on our experience with the instructional design document and our peer review.  The main purpose of this reflection is to write about what we learned, the changes that took place due to our learning, and how we used the feedback.  I was dreading this assignment but one has no choice but to keep moving and doing our best. I have learned and grown a lot as an instructional designer this week.  Working on the instructional design document has been one of the most challenging and yet rewarding assignments I have ever worked on.  I say this because writing is a weakness of mine and because I have very little experience with the analysis phase of instructional design.  I had to work hard and put in a lot of hours just to get the analysis design document in decent shape.  I must admit, I had issues with just about every section of the analysis document. The area which I struggled the most was the goals and objectives....
