Week 10

There is not much time left in the session to complete your project, so it is a good time to think about what needs to be done. What is left to do? What challenges have you faced? Will you be able to meet your timeline for completion? Why or why not? Will you be able to implement? Evaluate?
When I started working on my Canvas course I went full speed, wanting to avoid getting panicky in the last few weeks of the semester.  I spent the better part of two weeks working on the course just about every day.  In the last couple of weeks, I have made minor changes to my course, corrections, etc.  I feel that at this point, my course is about 90% completed so I don’t believe I will have any trouble meeting the timeline.
What Is Left To Do
I need to review my all of my discussion board items and clean them up a bit.  I wanted to take some time away from my course so that I can come in with a fresh perspective.  I tend to become blind to problems with my work once I have stared at it for way too long.  I also need to revisit my quizzes and make one last revision to them to make sure that everything is spelled correctly, the quiz questions are covering the correct module content, and that the right answers are selected.  I also need to go over my peer reviewer’s second notes and make sure I look at everything she recommended.  And finally, if times permits, I like to add a Homepage/landing page, although this is not a top priority.
Overall, I am happy with my work, my course and my progress.  I feel like getting an early start has paid off for me and I don’t feel rushed.  I also have been happy with my classmate’s peer review recommendations.  At this point, I’m just waiting for my instructor to review my course and give me his feedback.  I am excited about the final product for several reasons.  One, this is the first that I have been completely responsible for the development and design of a whole course.  I’ve created many Blackboard courses but it mostly been helping the faculty upload their own content.  Two, this is the first time I have been responsible for creating an analysis and all of the documentation that goes along with.  Three, this is my first time creating a syllabus and I have to say it was a lot of work!  And finally, this was my first time ever using Canvas as a student or as an instructor and I have learned so much and have loved Canvas.  I can’t wait until the semester ends and see all of my work completed.

Week 13 - Activity 5

What is left to do? Since I wrote my last blog I have made some small changes to my course.  I have made some small revisions to the modules to clean up the content a bit more.  I also finalized a couple of handouts that I had left incomplete.  I also changed my landing page and if time permits, I might change it again.  I need to go back and review all my course links and make sure they are all still active and opening the right pages.  Once I get these done, I will try downloading my course and see how that process goes as I don’t want to wait until the final week to do this, in case I run into issues. What challenges have you faced?  Will you be able to meet your timeline for completion?  Why or why not? Will you be able to implement? Evaluate? I haven’t faced too many challenges other than trying to complete all the work before the end of the semester.  I have reached the point in my project where I need to be able to see any mistak...

Activity 3: Blog Reflection for Week 6

Reflect on the following items: You have begun putting together your full course. What has gone well? What has challenged you? What feedback have you received? What feedback have you given? What have you learned from the process of developing instruction in an LMS? I started putting my course together in week 5 as I am trying not to procrastinate in this class because from week 7 on, I will need to rely on my time management skills.   I am so used to the Blackboard environment so there has been a learning curve as far understanding the structure of Canvas.   I am still not sure how some things work in Canvas but I think I am learning a lot through the development of my course.   For me, there is nothing better than hands-on learning.   The one area I’ve had difficulty with is placing links.   Canvas doesn’t allow for the use of some links and I find that a bit annoying.   The workaround has been for me to create a content page and the...

Week 3 - Blog Reflection 2

For week 3, we were asked to reflect on our experience with the instructional design document and our peer review.  The main purpose of this reflection is to write about what we learned, the changes that took place due to our learning, and how we used the feedback.  I was dreading this assignment but one has no choice but to keep moving and doing our best. I have learned and grown a lot as an instructional designer this week.  Working on the instructional design document has been one of the most challenging and yet rewarding assignments I have ever worked on.  I say this because writing is a weakness of mine and because I have very little experience with the analysis phase of instructional design.  I had to work hard and put in a lot of hours just to get the analysis design document in decent shape.  I must admit, I had issues with just about every section of the analysis document. The area which I struggled the most was the goals and objectives....
